This is a well-established, family-run firm of chartered accountants in Warrington, with a loyal client base built on long-standing relationships, including a number of high-net-worth UK and offshore clients. It's a genuinely small team, a handful of director-accountants alongside a close-knit accounts and tax function, with an open-door culture where everyone pitches in, and staff who've stayed for decades rather than years.

The role has opened up because the directors have been absorbing extra work as long-serving colleagues have moved on or retired, and they've now reached the point where they need a capable pair of hands to take some of that on. It suits someone who wants to do accountancy properly — understanding the numbers, not just running them through software — at a firm that values consistency and offers a supportive, professional and friendly working environment.

Practice Accountant (QBE) – Responsibilities

Accounts Preparation & Compliance

• Prepare financial statements for limited companies (FRS102 1A/FRS105), sole traders and partnerships, from source records through to completion
• Complete quarterly loan interest calculations, and prepare and submit VAT returns
• Handle Companies House filings and related statutory work
• Trust accounts exposure is a bonus, not a requirement — full training given

Client Relationships

• Respond directly to client queries and build long-term relationships with a loyal, largely HNW client base
• Attend client meetings (occasionally taking minutes) and travel to clients across the North West, North Wales, Shropshire and Derbyshire

Supporting the Team

• Assist the directors with ad hoc work, such as preparing documentation for client finance applications
• Prepare cashflows and budgets, and contribute to the firm's AML checks on new and existing clients

Practice Accountant (QBE) – Requirements

• Several years' hands-on general practice experience, ideally gained in a small or independent firm
• Comfortable preparing accounts from start to finish, not just reviewing software-generated output
• Working knowledge of VAT returns and general compliance; Xero and Taxcalc experience useful but not essential — training provided
• Full UK driving licence and access to a car, for travel to client sites
• Confident working directly with clients, including face-to-face meetings
• Looking for a stable, long-term role rather than a fast-track career move

Practice Accountant (QBE) – Benefits

Salary: £35,000 – £40,000, depending on experience
